Professor Eyitayo Ogungbenro Ogunbodede emerges as the new Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
It was jubilation galore yesterday as the workers of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, trooped out en-mass to celebrate the announcement of the new Vice Chancellor for the 55 year-old institution.Addressing a press conference at the University secretariat, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, announced Professor Eyitayo Ogungbenro Ogunbodede, a Professor of Preventive and Community Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, College of Health Sciences, as the new Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
A native of the ancient city of Owo in Ondo State, Professor Ogunbodede was born on the 23rd of January, 1957, and obtained his Bachelor of Science Honors, Health Sciences (1981), after which he obtained the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BCHD) in 1985. Not yet satisfied, in 1989, Ogunbodede obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) before proceeding to Royal College of Surgeons, England, where he obtained a Dental Diploma in Public Health in 1992. Professor Ogunbodede got his Ph.D. degree from the University of Western Cape in South Africa, and became a Professor on the 1st of October, 2000.
He joined the services of the University as a Medical Training Fellow in March, 1987, and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry in the year 2000.
